Since July 2016, AHF Indonesia has been officially registered in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and started collaboration with the Ministry of Health to implement HIV testing and treatment program with five local NGO partners and four ART treatment clinics in West Java and Jakarta. The services provided include patient laboratory test, access to ART drugs support, capacity building of hospital staff and organized advocacy meetings with the government for increased community testing and early treatment strategy.
The main purpose of Indonesia HIV/AIDS program is to increase healthines in people living with HIV/AIDS and avoid death from early caused opportunistic infection. These goals are improved by providing HIV/AIDS and STD clinic services appropriate to international medical standard requirements and national policy.
In recent years, the primary driver of the HIV epidemic has shifted from injection of drugs to sexual transmission. Most of the at-risk populations are in urban and peri-urban area. Key affected groups continue to report a high level of unsafe behavior and low awareness about HIV. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) uptake has increased from 2.381 patients receiving ART in 2005 to only about 60.000-65.000 (out of estimated 420,000 people living with HIV) in 2015, according to the Ministry of Health.
