Ethiopia

AHF began its operations in Ethiopia in 2014 with two standalone clinics: the AHF Yeka Clinic (formerly WWO-AHF Clinic) and the AHF Kolfe Clinic. In 2018, operations were consolidated at the new AHF Addis Clinic (formerly AHF Yeka), which also houses the Country Office. By 2023, AHF had expanded its reach to 19 health facilities across the nation, significantly enhancing access to comprehensive HIV care and services.

Operating in Addis Ababa City Administration and the Oromia, Amhara, and Sidama Regions, AHF Ethiopia supports both governmental and non-governmental health facilities. The AHF Addis Clinic offers a wide range of free services, including:

  • HIV counseling and testing (HCT)
  • Condom promotion and distribution
  • Comprehensive HIV care, including antiretroviral therapy (ART)
  • Treatment of opportunistic infections
  • ART laboratory monitoring
  • Tuberculosis screening, prevention, and treatment
  • STI diagnosis and management
  • Cervical cancer and hepatitis B/C screening
  • Care for HIV-exposed infants and family-focused care
  • Family planning and adolescent psychosocial support
  • Nutritional screening and menstrual health support for adolescents and young women living with HIV
  • Social work and counseling services
  • Since its inception, AHF Ethiopia has conducted nearly 718,000 free HIV tests and identified almost 15,000 new HIV-positive cases.

Beyond service delivery, AHF Ethiopia collaborates with Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) to strengthen health systems through training, mentorship, and capacity-building initiatives. These efforts aim to equip healthcare workers with the skills needed to deliver high-quality, sustainable care.

In addition, AHF Ethiopia drives advocacy efforts to influence policies and systems, ensuring better outcomes for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and supporting the nation’s fight against the HIV epidemic.
