SAN DIEGO (December 5, 2016) — AHF Pharmacy was named the 2016 Outstanding Pharmacy in San Diego at the 41St Annual Nicky Awards held on November 13th at the Handlery Hotel. The AHF Pharmacy, located at 3940 4th Avenue in Suite 150, has been serving the community since 1987, and was one of the first pharmacies in the nation to fill prescriptions for AZT, one of the game-changing AIDS treatments that began to slow the death rate during the AIDS crisis of the early 1990s. AHF welcomed the pharmacy into its network of sites in August 2012, and the San Diego pharmacy team has been proudly serving the San Diego community under the leadership of Christian Turner, Pharm D.
“It’s truly been a pleasure and honor to be a part of the Hillcrest community and to help ensure that our neighbors can access the medications they need in a convenient and efficient way,” said Jonathan Petrus, Chief/National Bureau and Investment at AHF. “We are honored to be recognized by the Nicky Awards this year and look forward to many more years of serving the community.”
The Nicky Awards were established in 1974 by longtime gay activist Nicole Ramirez. The Nicky Awards were also established to raise funds for community causes and the 1st Nicky Awards were a benefit for the Gay Center and the Metropolitan Community Church. Since 1970’s, the award show has raised thousands of dollars for numerous LGBT causes and is one of the longest running LGBT community award shows on the West Coast. The awards have been called “The Gay Academy Awards of San Diego.”
“By showcasing excellence in the community, the Nicky Awards serve as proof that every person has something important to contribute, the each of us can make a difference,” said Governor Gray Davis in an earlier statement. “This celebration is a tribute to the men and women of San Diego’s LGBT community who work hard to improve the quality of life for all.”
