The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is located in Eastern “Horn” of Africa with a total population of 8.5 million people. In 2007, Ethiopia launched a commitment towards the goal of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010. The Federal HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO) launched a “Millenium AIDS Campaign” to increase prevention and treatment efforts. Since 2007, data shows that the epidemic has stabilized in Ethiopia, with adult prevalence rates at 2.1 % and 5% in certain rural areas (UNAIDS).
