AHF Russia has supported projects to increase access to HIV testing, adequate medical care, and help HIV positive people since 2013. AHF Russia partners with various non-governmental organizations that strive to raise the quality of life for women affected by HIV, work with most-at-risk populations (MARPs), among other program specific causes. AHF Russia’s main focus in Russia is to provide financial support for testing, education about HIV transmission, treatment and care for people living with HIV. In late 2013, AHF Russia registered with the Russian Federation to ensure fluid implementation of existing programs.

Data from the Federal AIDS Center of the Russian Federation estimates 1.3 million people are living with HIV in the Russian Federation. About 180,000 people are receiving antiretroviral therapy, and more than 800,000 people are officially registered as HIV positive. Though the government provides free antiretroviral treatment (ART), almost 500,000 Russian citizens do not know they are HIV positive and risk infecting others. On average, 200 people become infected with HIV daily. HIV transmission remains highest among injecting drug users (IDUs) and heterosexual relations.
