Nepal

AHF Nepal has been collaborating with Nepal Government to provide free ART treatment to patients via the supported ART Clinics in different provinces and cities. AHF Nepal supports required lab investigations, management and referral of Opportunistic Infection costs. Sometimes, related medicines and transportation subsidies are provided to patients with very low income. In addition to ART, AHF Nepal supported centers also offer counseling services and treatment of other illnesses. The different outreach teams focus on training peer educators to promote treatment adherence and follow-up actions for PLHIV.

According to the statistics released by NCASC in 2017, there are an estimated 31,020 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Nepal. Only 19,702 (64%) of them had been diagnosed as of December 2017. Less than half of the diagnosed are receiving treatment (49% or 15,260) as of December 2017. Much efforts will be needed and AHF Nepal is committed to increase the percentage through the different collaborated programs with government and local communities.

In 2016, an estimated 32,000 Nepalese are living with HIV, out of the 29 million total population. Less than 1000 new HIV infections occurred in 2016. Gender prevalence amongst adults (15-49) shows women at .1% compared to men at .2%. Out of the 32,000 Nepalese living with HIV, approximately 13,000 are on treatment.
