Thursday, June 27 marks National HIV Testing Day, and the largest global AIDS organization in the U.S., AIDS Healthcare Foundation, has made free rapid HIV tests and free condoms available across the country! In addition to free testing opportunities inside of AHF Pharmacy and Out of the Closet Thrift Store locations, AHF will offer testing at its Wellness and Healthcare Centers and through mobile testing units. One can find their nearest testing opportunity at www.freehivtest.net.
Meanwhile, the AHF-initiated mobile condom distribution team that distributed 5.5 million condoms throughout the U.S. last year, Condom Nation, is hosting the second of two testing events in Columbus, Ohio. The dual events mark the launch of a partnership between AHF and popular condom manufacturer LifeStyles on the #KnowYourStatus campaign, which implores sexually active individuals to get tested and encourage their social circle to get tested through social media outreach.
“Nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV and almost one in five don’t know they are infected,” said Carol Carrozza, Vice President Sales & Marketing North America for Ansell Healthcare, the makers of LifeStyles Condoms. “Through this campaign, we hope to raise awareness surrounding the importance of knowing your status by partnering with an organization that shares our dedication to HIV education and prevention.”
From Tuesday, June 25 through National HIV Testing Day on Thursday, June 27, #KnowYourStatus encourages those active on social media to “Donate Your Status Update to Knowing Your Status,” asking users to update their social media platforms with pre-written messages along with the hash tag #KnowYourStatus.
As discussed in a Los Angeles Times article on the national day of testing, for each status shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hash tag #KnowYourStatus, LifeStyles will donate a condom, up to 50,000 condoms, to AHF to help prevent the spread of HIV.
