Last Friday, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Out of the Closet Thrift Store location in Amsterdam – the first outside of the U.S. – with “Cheap Chic: Fashion for Charity,” an event that not only highlighted the stylish thrifty finds one can buy at an Out of the Closet store with a lively fashion show, but also further introduced the Dutch branch of the store to its community, highlighting the opportunity for free HIV testing and the fact that 96% of all money earned through sales there benefit HIV/AIDS treatment and care worldwide through AHF.
“We are grateful for the warm reception we have received from the community this past year during which we have already inspired tons of regular shoppers and donors,” said Chris Vermaak, the store manager. “We hope that new visitors who walk through our doors are amazed at what they find: trendy fashion at great prices and a way to give back to a good cause.”
Revelers enjoyed food, games, sales, and the fashion show all while wearing crowns to commemorate the annual Dutch holiday honoring the country’s royal leaders – commonly “Queen’s Day,” but this year “King’s Day,” marking the transition from a female to male-led monarchy – with the theme of “A Royal Birthday.”
