Yeejo: AHF Rwanda Conducts Free HIV/AIDS Testing for Kagugu Youth

AHF, the international organization that deals with HIV prevention services, testing, and healthcare for HIV patients organized a public action of conducting HIV tests for free for Kagugu residents, mostly youth, who were fearful for their the results.

Etienne Hakizimana, a coordinator in charge of HIV testing at AHF, said that the theme of this year was highlighting the deep fighting against HIV/AIDS. “This year’s theme or topic is removing presently HIV/AIDS,” Etienne expressed. He also added that AHF is encouraging the youth to prevent HIV through the rephrased statement “widen your dreams by permanently avoiding HIV.”

Murekatete Beatrice, one of the residents of Kagugu, said that this action is crucial as it helps people to know their life status so that they can easily prevent themselves. “Actually, this activity is very much important as it helps people to know their how their life is no only HIV but also some other illness like obesity and any other diseases especially to the young people,” Murekatete uttered.

Niyonkuru Elias is also another resident of Kagugu. For him he said that he was afraid of being HIV-positive but after receiving the results he felt relaxed. “I was scared of the results that I expected to get but after getting them I found that I was safe which helped me to take other measure in to avoid and prevent myself from being infected by HIV, among the counsels that Doctor gave me is abstinence and if I fail I can use condom,” Elisa insisted.
