Culminating the four-month-long ‘Test-to-Win’ contest — a media and awareness campaign that introduced the INSTI Rapid HIV Test to America in September and encouraged widespread HIV testing throughout the Southland — international AHF representatives and 2013 Tournament of Roses float riders Francis Xavier De Melo of New Delhi and Marcos Ledesma of Mexico City announced at the Pasadena Out of the Closet thrift store on New Year’s Day that the winner of the grand prize Fiat 500 convertible was Pacific Palisades resident Elizabeth Conn, 22. Conn entered the contest by being one of the 20 people who got tested at a Halloween testing event held at West Hollywood’s LA Sports Club clothing store, where no one tested positive for HIV. A total of 894 people were tested at the 13 testing events held between September and December, of which five tested positive for the virus and were linked with care. In addition to those who entered the Fiat contest by getting tested, more than 1,400 people entered online or through AHF representatives with iPads at the events, some of which were held in conjunction with events like the West Hollywood Auto Show, the AIDS Project LA AIDS Walk, Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day, and KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball.
