Lesotho: World TB Day

In Lesotho by AHF

Tuberculosis in Lesotho is a deadly illness for many residents of rural communities. But it doesn’t have to be, as a local TB survivor explained to a crowd of 400 people that gathered in the Mokhalinyane community during the World TB Day commemoration co-hosted by AHF Lesotho on March 24.

The event started with a march led by the police band. It was followed by AHF’s nurse Sr Thamae, who gave a detailed TB awareness presentation aimed at encouraging people to get tested and start treatment. Throughout the event, AHF counsellors tested people for HIV and TB, while the National Blood Transfusion Services collected blood donations.

Key people at the event included area chief Mr. Ramakau, area counsellor Mme Mphou, Mokhalinyane Police station Commender Ins Lebajoa, MASERU Rural District Police Commissioner SSP Ntlaba and AHF Lesotho Country Program Manager Mme Mapaballo Mile. The community leadership committed to fighting TB in their areas. A popular clap and tap music group Balopolloa Ba Morena performed music at the event.
