International Women’s Day 2018

In Global by AHF

Since 1977, March 8 has served as the official date for International Women’s Day (IWD) – a global initiative that promotes gender equality while celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Following an annual tradition, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) marked the holiday by organizing events in countries around the world. The “Keep the Promise to Women” theme was again in the spotlight as advocates offered free HIV testing and promoted messages of empowerment, education and healthy living.

AHF Indonesia marked its first IWD celebration with a march that set the stage for a day of successful festivities. Female condoms were distributed in Argentina, and in Nigeria, 200 women received versatile water buckets as gifts. Other countries had unique events as well, like “Art as Activism” in South Africa and colorful choreographed dances by community members in China.

AHF in Los Angeles joined in on the action by hosting a resource fair with a focus on underserved women. It included help with job interview preparations, housing assistance, bagged lunches and a creative doll-making station.
