Hundreds Line Up for NoHo Out of the Closet Opening

In News by AHF

This past Saturday, hundreds of shoppers lined up for the chance to be first through the doors on the opening day of the newest Out of the Closet Thrift Store in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles. AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) President Michael Weinstein, celebrities and local officials were on hand to mark the store’s opening with a ribbon-cutting and a celebration that included free food and entertainment. A representative from the office of Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian (District 2) stopped by to welcome the store into the neighborhood.

Also at the new location on Saturday, AHF filmed its first celebrity thrifting competition called “Thrifting with the Stars: Hollywood Gives Back.” In this soon-to-be-released web series, celebrities are paired with people whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS for a fashion contest. The best ensemble—and celebrity “stylist”—wins!

A special thanks goes out from AHF and Out of the Closet to all of the “Thrifting with the Stars” participants, including Disney Star Tiffany Thornton, NCIS: LA’s Reneé Felice Smith, and Kat Graham of The Vampire Diaries. In addition to donating their time, Tiffany and Renee also donated some great clothing items from their very own closets! The contest was hosted by musician and actor Michael J. Willett and the panel of judges included reality star Johnny Anastacio of Kimora Lee Simmon’s House of Fab.

Free HIV testing and free condoms were available to all on opening day — and will continue to be available at the new store location. Shoppers also took advantage of the opportunity to register to win a free car! The Mini Cooper that is up for grabs was inside the store and will continue to be for the duration of the contest. The first 1,000 people to register inside the store will have a chance to win, so come on down to the new store location and register today!

Stay tuned for “Thrifting with the Stars” webisodes, which will premiere later this month. And please stop by to donate to or shop at the new store location where 96 cents of every dollar earned will go toward providing HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and testing.
