Looking For HIV Testing in Myanmar? Find HIV Center

In 2014, AHF Myanmar’s first clinic opened in Yangon in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. AHF Myanmar provides HIV/AIDS related services at Mingaladon Hospital and Waibagi Specialist Hospital and provides ART drugs, laboratory services and data management. AHF Myanmar also supported capacity building of hospital staff and organized advocacy meetings with parliamentarians on community testing and early treatment strategy.

At World AIDS Day 2014, AHF Myanmar conducted community testing, health education and condom promotion services at market places and the Aung Mingala highway bus terminal.

In 2015, AHF Myanmar expanded to mobile VCT teams in conjunction with the National AIDS Program (NAP) for community testing, education of high risk population groups, and condom promotion. The organization worked with the NAP to increase access to ART for migrant workers in Thai-Myanmar border areas, as well as the China-Myanmar border areas. AHF Myanmar also works with local NGOs supporting their activities of HIV/AIDS care, treatment and prevention services.

In 2016, an estimated 220,000 Myanmar people are living with HIV, out of the 55 million total population. An estimated 11,000 new HIV infections occurred in 2016. Gender prevalence amongst adults (15-49) shows women at .6% compared to men at 1%. Out of the 220,000 Myanmar people living with HIV, approximately 130,000 are on treatment.
