FT LAUDERDALE (February 6, 2014) AHF MCO of Florida, an affiliate of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, has been awarded a new contract from Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to develop Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) programs to develop and operate specialty health care plans serving populations with a distinct diagnosis or chronic condition—in the case of AHF MCO, for individuals with HIV/AIDS. AHF MCO was awarded a contract covering Regions 10 & 11—Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

The new AHF MCO contract came about in response to a request for proposals (RFP) from AHCA issued last February after the Florida Legislature created a new statute (Part IV of Chapter 409, Florida Statutes) in 2011 directing ACHA to create the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program, of which the new Managed Medical Assistance programs will be a part.
