SACRAMENTO, CA (November 2, 2016) In an effort to educate California voters about drug company greed, the Yes on Prop. 61/Californians for Lower Drug Prices campaign aired a compelling 30-minute documentary, titled “Your Money or Your Life,” featuring U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, among others, in five major media markets in California on Saturday, October 29th. California voters and viewers can now view the documentary online, which so far has been viewed by over 300,000 individuals.

“We are pleased to be able to bring this excellent, emotional and powerful program to the voters of California,” said Garry South, lead strategist for the Yes on 61 campaign. “This documentary drills down deep on the deceptive and avaricious practices of the greedy drug companies, and tells real-life stories of people and families that are being hurt, and their health and even lives endangered, by the heartless profiteering of Big Pharma.” The trailer for the film can be viewed by clicking here.

Big Pharma has now ponied up an all-time California record of more than $126 million in their efforts to get Californians to vote against their best interests. Supporters of Proposition 61 recognize there is simply no way to match the barrage of paid TV advertisements and commercials with which Big Pharma is blanketing the airwaves in order to incite fear and confusion – and tell outright lies – about what Proposition 61 will or won’t do. With about only one-seventh the resources ($14.5M to Pharma’s $126M), the Yes on 61 campaign has had to be frugal – and creative.

Prop. 61 is the only opportunity voters in California will have this year to address the high cost of prescription drugs, and it is the only drug-pricing measure on the ballot in the United States. Proposition 61 would require the state of California to negotiate with drug companies for drug prices that are no more than is paid for the same drugs by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Prop. 61 empowers the state, as the healthcare buyer for millions of Californians, to negotiate the same or an even better deal for taxpayers, saving the state billions.
