The Keep the Promise Coalition is excited to announce that respected civil rights leader, ordained minister, former U.S. Congressman, former Mayor of Atlanta, Georgia and former United Nations Ambassador, Andrew Young, will speak at the “Keep the Promise” March on Washington at the Washington Monument grounds on July 22, 2012.

Drawing on his experience as a distinguished diplomat, Ambassador Young will address the global fight against AIDS and why we must “Keep the Promise” on HIV/AIDS.

Ambassador Young offers a unique perspective as a politician, activist and comrade of the late Dr. Martin Luther King. The historic 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington, which Ambassador Young helped lead, transformed American society. He brings a wealth of experience in national and global leadership and we welcome his insight and wisdom on the sustained fight to stop HIV/AIDS. Serving under President Jimmy Carter, U.N. Ambassador Young negotiated an end to white minority rule in Namibia and Zimbabwe, and brought an emphasis on human rights to international diplomacy. President Carter awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom and France awarded him the Legion d’honneur, the greatest civilian honor in each nation.

“I cannot think of a more well-respected leader in civil and human rights than Ambassador Young. We are extremely honored to have him join the ‘Keep the Promise’ March on Washington.” –Michael Weinstein

Ambassador Young’s leadership as Mayor of Atlanta took place during a recession and a major reduction in federal funding for cities. Thinking out of the box, he turned to international markets for investments, attracting 1,100 new businesses, $70 billion in investment, and adding more than 1 million jobs to the region. Currently he serves as the Co-Founding Principal and Chairman of Goodworks International. At a critical time in the battle against HIV/AIDS, Ambassador Young’s experience and vision is a valuable asset.

“I cannot think of a more well-respected leader in civil and human rights than Ambassador Young. We are extremely honored to have him join the ‘Keep the Promise’ March on Washington”, said Michael Weinstein, President of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the lead organizer of the March in coalition with more than 1,300 supporting organizations worldwide.

“We, Georgians coming to Washington, are so proud that our own former Mayor Young will be there with us. We are fighting for our lives and his voice has always been a strong one. We need him now and it will be a joy to be with him on July 22nd at the Washington Monument”, said William Francis, Advocate and Activist from the Citywide Project Inc. – Atlanta, Georgia.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear Ambassador Young and other world leaders at the “Keep the Promise” March on Washington.
