LOS ANGELES (July 19, 2016) — AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) was proud to take part in San Diego’s Gay Pride Festival and Parade this past weekend in the Hillcrest neighborhood.  The organization—which operates its AHF Healthcare Center and Pharmacy in San Diego at 3940 4th Ave., Suite 140—offered free condoms, safer sex information and HIV testing throughout the festival.  AHF patients, volunteers and staff also marched in Sunday’s parade alongside AHF’s specially customized “One Comm(unity), One Love” bus.

AHF is proud to support the San Diego LGBT community through its specialized healthcare center offering treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS under the clinic’s primary providers Drs. Adam Zweig and Chris Holt and full-service AHF Pharmacy, which has been in operation since September 2012.

“With our nation and the LGBT community still reeling from recent attacks of violence, our marching side-by-side with the San Diego LGBT community was a sincere expression of solidarity and support that was especially meaningful for AHF this year,” said Jonathan Petrus, Chief/National Bureau and Investment at AHF. “We are always pleased to do whatever we can to support our patients in San Diego and are grateful to work with our local partners including Being Alive, Serenity Yoga, Auntie Helen’s, Neighborhood House and Building on a Positive Life.”

According to a report from the County of San Diego HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Unit, there were 1,819 HIV diagnoses between 2007 and 2011, 91% of which occurred in men. Though the African-American community carries the heaviest HIV burden in the county, 43% of the 1,819 recent diagnoses were white, 36% were Hispanic, and 15% were black.
