“This new Wellness location is a much needed resource for the local community and is expected to grow rapidly,” said LaRaun Clayton, Interim Executive Director of the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. “In our first shift, on Wednesday of last week, we saw nine patients for HIV and STI screenings.”

“We are excited to add our Wellness Center services to our Cleveland Healthcare Center and expand our ability to offer STD and HIV screenings for sexually active adults in a convenient, confidential environment,” said Tracy Jones, Midwest Regional Director & National Director of Advocacy Campaigns for AHF. “With cultural changes and the rise of mobile dating apps helping to fuel the rise of sexually transmitted diseases—especially among young adults—we want people to make routine STD screenings a key component of their plans for healthy living.”

According to 2014 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Cleveland/Cuyahoga County reported 11,363cases of chlamydia, 3,802 cases of gonorrhea and 80 cases of primary and secondary syphilis. 210 new HIV diagnoses were also reported in 2014.
