AHF Wellness Centers are designed to make testing and treatment for STDs accessible, convenient, and affordable, as well as to encourage regular sexual health screenings for all sexually active people. Services offered include free HIV testing and free screening and treatment for Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

According to the 2011 report from the Texas Department of State Health’s HIV and STD Program, Dallas had the second-highest rate of new STD cases in the state after Houston. That year, 10,989 new cases of Chlamydia, 3,546 new cases of gonorrhea, and 1,021 new cases of syphilis were reported in Dallas alone.

“The need for an accessible, affordable STD screening opportunity is clearly high here in Dallas, and we are so pleased to be able to serve that need with this new AHF Wellness Center,” said Bret Camp, AHF’s Regional Director for Texas. “There are effective treatment options for HIV and most STDs when routine check-ups catch infections early and treatment is readily provided, as it will be in this facility. We hope that by providing these much-needed services for free in a non-threatening, confidential environment, people will consider sexual health screenings a routine health practice.”

AHF operates more than a dozen Wellness Centers throughout the United States – in Florida, California, Ohio, Texas, and Washington, D.C. – and one in Mexico City. More information about Wellness Center services and locations can be found at www.freestdcheck.org.
