What is a gift?

A gift is anything someone gives you because of your work with AHF. A gift can be a present, free food or events, or a perk.

Examples of gifts include:

  • Money, gift cards, or free meals
  • Travel or hotel stays
  • Discounts or special favors not offered to everyone

Why should you share it?

Gifts to AHF staff can make it look like AHF is not fair. Most of the time, you should politely say no to gifts. If you cannot refuse a gift without causing embarrassment, you must:

  • Accept it for your department or AHF (not for yourself)
  • Share it with your office
  • Tell your manager
  • Disclose it here

Do you have A gift to disclose?

Sometimes people may want to give you a gift in the form of a present or special hospitality or perks. You should generally decline gifts graciously, because they can create an appearance of impropriety.  If you cannot accept a gift without causing undue embarrassment to the giver, you must accept it on behalf of your department or AHF, share it with your office, and disclose it here and to your manager.
