AHF Commemorates International Women’s Day

In Global by AHF

Los Angeles, CA (March 8, 2013) – On International Women’s Day, AIDS Healthcare Foundation honors the 15 million women estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS around the world. We salute all of the women and girls that we treat in every region we operate: the U.S., Africa, Asia, Latin America/Caribbean and Eastern Europe and urge every woman to get tested for HIV. AHF is committed to providing women with the tools to protect themselves and their partners and to live the healthiest lives possible. We have fought for and will continue to fight to ensure that all pregnant HIV-positive women are treated with a full and continuous course of anti-retroviral treatment (ART) to protect the health of both the child and the mother.

Globally, an estimated 52% of AHF clients are women and approximately 47% of all the pediatric patients in AHF’s care are female. Excluding the U.S., an estimated 96,660 of the women in AHF’s care are on anti-retroviral treatment. The region with the highest percentage of women treated by AHF is Africa, where HIV/AIDS is largely a generalized epidemic.
