Marcelino Alcorta

Western Bureau Chief

Marcelino Alcorta is a Navy veteran who joined AHF family via Impulse, an AHF affinity group whose purpose is to promote sexual and lifestyle wellness using modern social approaches while engaging, supporting and connecting gay men. Prior to joining AHF, he worked as an HIV/ Hepatitis C test counselor who also developed an LGBTQ oriented sexual health curriculum aimed at reducing HIV infections amount 14-24 aged youth.

After completing his Masters in Public Health, he worked for the University of California San Diego Anti-Viral Research Center where he worked on NIH research centered on identifying acute infections and optimization of PrEP among vulnerable populations. He then went on to San Diego State University conducting research centered on developing and testing mobile health (mHealth) interventions to improve the sexual health and well-being of sexual and gender minority persons.

Marcelino worked for the Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, the DoD implementing agency for the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). He led operational coordination for the countries of South Sudan, Zambia, Uganda, Rwanda, and Djibouti.

He joined AHF as the Regional Director of HCC Operations in 2022 and worked closely with other Western leaders to cultivate an environment of collaboration and innovation leading to his being named as the first Western Bureau Chief.
