Justice for Renters Act easily qualifies for November ballot with more than 617,000 signatures verified

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 26 2023) A broad and growing coalition of California renters, housing advocates, elected officials, and social justice organizations will host a ZOOM press teleconference on Thursday, July 27 at 12:00 pm (noon) PDT to announce the California Secretary of State’s office has certified the ‘Justice for Renters Act’ for the November 2024 ballot. The statewide initiative will remove California’s rent control ban and give local communities the right to stabilize rents and make apartments more affordable for low- and middle-income renters.

Earlier this year, backers of the Justice for Renters Act submitted more than 810,000 signatures in support of the Justice for Renters Act. The Secretary of State’s office confirmed as of today (7/26), they had verified over 617,000 signatures—substantially more than the 546,651 valid California voter signatures required by its random sample count method to qualify the measure to go before voters in November 2024.
