Pride Hits Buenos Aires!

In Argentina, Global Advocacy by Fiona Ip

Advocates from AHF Argentina recently joined more than 1.3 million paradegoers to celebrate the country’s Pride festival as the masses descended upon Buenos Aires in one of the largest parades ever!

The commemoration lasted all day and into the night and featured 44 floats, including AHF’s “Pride Unites Us” truck, where participants could score free condoms and information on HIV testing. Thanks to its advocacy efforts in 2022, the Argentina team was chosen to contribute to the Pride organization committee’s advocacy document and read a portion of it on the Pride’s main stage.
“We were proud to be asked to join the 60 other civil society organizations in contributing to this document, which highlights the massive progress we all made this year in ushering in the new law guaranteeing comprehensive health care to people living with HIV in Argentina,” said AHF Argentina Prevention and Testing Manager Natalia Haag. “And while we’ve made tremendous progress, we’re using this magnificent Pride celebration to continue calling for a public health system that provides a comprehensive response to HIV, without stigma or discrimination, including the immediate implementation of the New Law on HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STIs and Tuberculosis.”
AHF Argentina, along with many civil society partners, reached a major milestone earlier this year after eight long years of advocacy culminated in the new HIV law that guarantees the same rights to people living with HIV as other Argentinians and integrates provisions for viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, and other sexually transmitted infections.
