Argentina Fights HIV with Law and LOVE

In Argentina by AHF

Check out all the activities AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Argentina had going on the past few months!

Cordoba Pride Parade

During the 9th Pride and Diversity Parade on Nov.11, participants marched eight blocks to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in the country and to lobby for equality for its most at-risk populations. One key focus of the parade was advocacy for a new law that would incorporate viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections into existing legislation and provide expansive treatment for these common co-infections that affect so many with HIV.

Spring Fest

Every September, Argentina throws one of its biggest parties of the year—Spring Fest—to welcome the new season by celebrating Spring Day and Students Day. This year’s event drew over 70,000 people and AHF Argentina seized the opportunity to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS and let people know about the services it provides. Throughout the celebration, AHF tested 798 people for HIV and handed out 22,800 free LOVE condoms.

Lawyers brush up on HIV

Ten Argentine lawyers from across the country attended an AHF-supported, intensive two-day course recently. The group applied theoretical and practical knowledge to cases that influence the rights of people living with HIV (PLHIV). Upon completion, attorneys were better able to defend their clients and identify which laws require modification to help ensure equality regardless of status.

AHF has been providing treatment services in Argentina since 2013 and has 8,092 clients enrolled in care.
