AHF @ Snow Fest Argentina!

In Argentina by AHF

Every year at the end of July, Argentina’s National Snow Festival is celebrated in Bariloche City, where over 10,000 people turn out for a week of special events, including concerts, various contests and career expos. This year, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Argentina was front and center to spread the word on HIV and safer sex practices.

“We are working together, both the city and AHF, especially where our youth are concerned,” said Mayor Gustavo Genusso. “Your presence here is very important, where students, tourists and all the people of Bariloche can get AHF’s message to ‘Take care, Test yourself and Treat yourself’.”

Between those in attendance and television broadcasts, millions viewed the week’s events. To reach the youth specifically, AHF and a partner organization brought in popular Argentine celebrity and AHF ambassador, Jey Mammon to speak at the main performance and give several interviews.

“People from Bariloche and tourists from all over come to the AHF booth and get informed about testing, prevention and treatment,” said Mammon. “With AHF’s rapid tests, you know your status within minutes. Unfortunately, we´re lacking political decisions on HIV, and a lot of work is needed to raise awareness and to push the government for action.”

This was the first year any prevention messages were incorporated with the Snow Fest, and Bariloche’s mayor acknowledged HIV/AIDS advocacy was imperative.

Over 5,000 people stopped by the AHF booth throughout the week. Staff and volunteers distributed 6,000 LOVE condoms, 3,000 test coupons and thousands of other AHF-branded items.

AHF has been working in Argentina since 2013 and provides treatment for 8,092 patients.
