Staff from AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) China ventured to the top of the Great Wall’s Jiankou section to commemorate AHF’s 30 years of providing patient-centered care and lifesaving treatment to those affected by HIV/AIDS around the world.
The group chose one of the most dangerous and unique sections of the Wall in Beijing to symbolize AHF’s arduous but rewarding journey to its current position as a global leader in HIV/AIDS advocacy and treatment.
“We are all very proud to be members of the No. 1 international HIV/AIDS organization,” Deputy Asia Bureau Chief Dr. Bao Yugang said. “When considering how to celebrate this special 30-year milestone, the Great Wall and especially Jiankou were the only places that came to mind.”
Along with planting the AHF anniversary banner atop the Wall, the China team also promoted safer-sex practices and education along the way by distributing over 300 condoms to travelers they met during their hike.
