WASHINGTON (June 26, 2015) AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) cheered the Supreme Court ruling earlier today legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states. The ruling came in a 5 to 4 decision led by Justice Anthony Kennedy, who authored the majority opinion.
“This is truly an historic day for the LGBT community and indeed the country at large. We welcome and join in celebrations nationwide, and applaud the Court and Justice Kennedy, in particular, for this ruling,” said Michael Weinstein, president of AHF. “Gay marriage and the values any sanctioned marriage encourages may be one of the single most successful ways to promote safer sex. One of the unintended consequences of the Court’s ruling today could be a reduction in new HIV and STD infections among gay men.”
