LOS ANGELES (May 19, 2015) — AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) was proud to take part in the 32nd Annual Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival on May 16 – 17th, 2015 in Long Beach, CA. The organization—which operates its AHF Healthcare Center, Pharmacy and Out of the Closet thrift store in Long Beach at 3500 E. Pacific Coast Highway—offered free condoms, safer sex information and HIV testing throughout the festival at Booth G200-202. Festival attendees who took a free HIV test were encouraged to enter AHF’s “Test Drive” sweepstakes to win a brand new 2015 Fiat that will be displayed on site.

AHF patients, volunteers and staff also marched with its Out of the Closet float in Sunday’s parade.

AHF is proud to support the Long Beach LGBT community through its specialized healthcare center offering treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS under the clinic’s primary provider Dr. George Melikian and full-service AHF Pharmacy, housed inside its Out of the Closet thrift store, where 96 cents of every dollar also goes toward global HIV/AIDS care.

According to its most recent HIV/AIDS monitoring report from the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, there are 1,649 people living with HIV and 6,310 people living with AIDS in the city as of December 2014. The report states that through December 31, 2014, a majority (33.7%) of the cumulative HIV cases in Long Beach were among people between the ages of 30 and 39. Thirty percent of all HIV cases were diagnosed among people between the ages of 20 and 29 and 22% were diagnosed between ages 40 and 49. Since 1981, men in Long Beach have been substantially more impacted by HIV/AIDS diagnoses than women, and there was a higher incidence of infection among the black population, according to the report.
