An intentional nongovernmental organization AIDS Health Care Foundation based in the United States of America has on Friday 31st October 2014 donated a huge consignment of personal protective equipment PPEs worth over seventy thousand United States dollars to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone.

The items including one hundred and sixty (160) body bags, four (4) barrels of chlorine, two thousand pieces of gloves, five Hundred PPEs (Gowns, Hoods, Boots, Goggles and respirators) and four Hundred pairs of Wellington boots were donated through the National AIDS Secretariat NAS regional office in Kenema.

Mohamed M. B. Sisay Regional Coordinator for NAS East while delivering the items on behalf of the country’s Program Manager AIDS Health Care foundation, Madam Miatta Jambawai said the National Aids Secretariat is working with development partners both within and outside Sierra Leone to ensure that their program succeeds.

Mohamed M. B. Sisay said AIDS Healthcare Foundation has lost two of its staff to Ebola and as an organization they have made it a point of duty to ensure that such ugly incidents never continue unabated especially when they have the capacity to help.

He said this was the fourth time that this organization has made similar donations to help Sierra Leoneans out of the Ebola crisis. He extended appreciation to AIDS Health Care Foundation for the donation and welcomed the Ebola coordinating unit in the district for answering their call within a very short time.

The newly appointed District Coordinator for the National Emergency Response Centre Mr. Abdul Wahab Wann said the items will be distributed to targeted beneficiaries adding that the items are coming at a time when the stock in the ware house are almost depleted. He thanked the donor for such a laudable venture and appealed that other organizations follow in their footsteps.

Mr. Abdul Wahab Wann described the donation as a massive one in the fight against Ebola saying that even though other organizations have been donating including world vision this present gesture will go a long way in safeguarding the lives of the medical workers who were dying because of lack of protective gears.

He said the dangers our health care workers were facing was because of lack of personal protective materials and that the donation will help to address this short fall. He thanked the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and the National Ebola Response Centre for appointing him to the district office where he promised to do what he was appointed to do in making sure that Ebola is contained in the district and the country as a whole.

The Coordinator District Social Mobilization and Psychosocial Committee John Akar Sesay said the presentation was very timely and useful to the health care workers even at community or PHU level who are at risk of contracting the disease from people whose status can hardly be ascertained. He said Ebola is difficult to fight but with concerted effort the people of the Eastern Region and Kenema district are gradually putting the Ebola issues behind them and they are now on top of the situation.

Mr. Augustine Sannoh who is also the district logistic officer thanked AIDS Health Care Foundation for their timely donation in ensuring that the people of Sierra Leone defeat Ebola. He said the items will be given to the direct beneficiaries at the Ebola unit where the items will be used judiciously.
