DALLAS (November 29, 2012) – As the world collectively marks the fight against HIV/AIDS on December 1st for World AIDS Day, millions will pause to remember those who have passed from the disease and advocate for testing and treatment to prevent any more HIV-related deaths. Texans will have something particularly special to celebrate this year because AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is giving the state another major tool to increase access to HIV/AIDS care by opening its second Healthcare Center in Texas—in Dallas at Medical City Hospital.

The clinic will host a grand opening event on the evening of December 3 from 5pm to 8pm, where specialists from AHF’s Public Health Division will be on site to demonstrate the new “INSTI” 1-minute HIV test. AHF had been using “INSTI” in Africa, India, and Mexico for about four years before introducing it to the U.S. at a West Hollywood event in September. A mobile testing van will make “INSTI” available in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area beginning January 2013.

Complimentary parking for this event will be available in Garage A, and people will also have the chance to win raffle prizes including a 40-inch TV and Best Buy gift cards of various amounts.

AHF opened its Ft. Worth Magic Johnson Healthcare Center – located next to the city’s AIDS Outreach Center – in August. In addition to this new Dallas clinic, AHF operates 21 other clinics nationwide: 11 in California, six in Florida, two in Washington, D.C., and one in Georgia.
