Magic Johnson HIV testing tour rolls into Fort Worth today

The Magic Johnson HIV testing tour will roll through North Texas this week to offer free screenings and promote awareness of the disease.

The four-month tour across 48 states is a collaboration between the basketball legend and the AIDS HealthCare Foundation. The foundation is working with Tarrant County Public Health, the AIDS Outreach Center and Mental Health Mental Retardation of Tarrant County to provide the testing. The screening events are scheduled in advance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Sunday. The tour culminates with a testing event in New York on June 27, National HIV Testing Day.

The state-of-the-art mobile unit was designed to make HIV testing and counseling more streamlined and accessible to the public. An estimated 34,940 people live with AIDS in Texas.

Free tests will be offered from:
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Tarrant County Public Health, 1101 S. Main St., Suite 1500, Fort Worth.
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, public health offices at the Tarrant County Subcourthouse, 3212 Miller Ave., Fort Worth.
