By: Staff Reporter, Associated Press
Washington, DC - September 24, 2009
Actor Blair Underwood is expected to cut the ribbon on an HIV/AIDS clinic bearing his name.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation is opening the AHF Blair Underwood Clinic on K Street in northwest Washington Thursday morning. The clinic is near George Washington University Hospital, where clinic officials plan to admit some patients who need to be hospitalized. The organization has also relocated a mobile testing unit from Los Angeles to provide free HIV testing in underserved neighborhoods in Washington.
Underwood, a longtime AIDS advocate, has previously been featured in AHF media campaigns. In a statement, the actor says he’s honored to have the new clinic share his name and hopes it will help improve access to lifesaving care for D.C. residents with HIV and AIDS.
