Yoko Miyasaki, MD, MS is an infectious disease specialist at the Hollywood and Upland Healthcare Centers. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board in Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Miyasaki completed her internship and internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and did her infectious disease fellowship in a joint training program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Los Angeles and Olive View University of California Los Angeles County Medical Center in Sylmar.
She has been conducting laboratory-based research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to identify new pharmacotherapy against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Dr. Miyasaki’s current clinical research interest is the neuroendocrine effects of HIV infection. She is the lead author of a chapter on HIV/AIDS in Hormones, Brain & Behavior (2nd edn. Academic Press. Publication expected in 2009). As an active attending physician in the Division of Infectious Disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she supervises medical students, internal medicine residents and infectious disease fellows at its Infectious Disease/Immunodeficiency Clinic two months of the year. She is also the 2008 winner of the Sports Spectacular Endowed Fellowship Award for laboratory research on multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
An avid tennis player and classic pianist, Dr. Miyasaki, performs in the Japan Musicians’ Association of Southern California piano festival every spring. She is also proficient in Japanese and Spanish.
Born and raised in Japan, Dr. Miyasaki received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Keio University, Faculty of Economics in Tokyo in 1992; a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1994; a Master of Science in Population and International Health from Harvard University, School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts in 1995; and her Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts in 2003.
