Mary Adair, PA
Physician’s Assistant - Director of HIV Medics Training Program
Mary L. Adair, PA-C is Director of Global Training at AIDS Healthcare Foundation. She oversees the specialized training of HIV medics and paraprofessional healthcare workers in resource-poor countries to assist clinicians in the provision of anti-retroviral therapy (ART).
Ms. Adair is a leader in HIV/AIDS treatment, care and international program scale-up. She was principal in treating the first 20 HIV-infected residents of the Masaka district in Uganda. She was the clinician consultant and trainer for AHF’s Masaka, Uganda, and Umlazi Township, South Africa clinics. There she developed HIV/AIDS clinical services, community education and training. She was also instrumental in establishing partnerships with Ministries of Health and other not-for-profit organizations key for the implementation of AHF’s global HIV/AIDS programs in Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda and South Africa.
Ms. Adair served as a clinical instructor at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Allied Health Professionals to physician assistant students specializing in HIV/AIDS. She also conducted clinical assessment and gynecological exams at the Audre Lourde Lesbian Health Clinic.
Ms. Adair’s experience is invaluable to HIV/AIDS research. Initially, she served as a co-investigator at the University of Southern California (USC) on the first AIDS Educational Training Center clinical trials and continued to assist on the first AIDS vaccine. She has also conducted merited work on anti-retroviral adherence and HIV and Hepatitis-C co-infection. She has appeared in well-known publications, including the Archives of Internal Medicine, Physician Assistant, and the HIV Manual for the Healthcare Professional.
Ms. Adair is a founder and past board chair of AIDS Healthcare Foundation and the Physician’s Assistant AIDS Network. Currently, she sits on the advisory board of the National AETC, which determines current treatment updates in HIV disease.
Ms. Adair received her certification as a physician assistant from the USC School of Medicine.
