Chhim Sarath, MD

Country Program Manager, Cambodia

Chhim Sarath, MD is Country Program Manager for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Cambodia. Dr. Sarath serves as AHF’s chief link with external and internal agencies advancing AHF Cambodia’s mission to expand HIV treatment and care services in the country. He is responsible for overseeing all special projects, antiretroviral (ART) programs, management of ART centers, and liaising with the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, NGOs and local PLHA groups.

 

Dr. Sarath brings a wealth of knowledge to his position with AHF. Previously he served as a Program Manager at Khmer HIV/AIDS NGO Alliance (KHANA), the largest HIV/AIDS NGO in Cambodia that works in partnership with more than 74 Cambodian NGOs and community-based organizations (CBOs).  He provided technical support, needs assessment skills and capacity building on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care & Support. He also served as Director of the Primary Health Care Department of the Prey Veng Provincial Health Department in Cambodia from 1994 to 1995 and was Chief of the Pediatric Ward of Prey Veng Provincial Hospital from 1990 to 1993.

 

He received his Medical Assistant and Medical Doctor degrees from the University of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia in 1990 and 1999 respectively. He obtained a Master of Science in Disease Control from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium in 2004. Additionally, Dr. Sarath trained in general medicine and assisted with a village health clinic at Dhamtari Christian Hospital in India from September 1993 to March 1994.  In the fall of 2002, Dr. Sarath completed the International Course on AIDS Prevention and Care for Asia in Japan.

 

Dr. Sarath frequently represents AHF at meetings and conferences, in particular those related to HIV/AIDS treatment and policy in Cambodia. He is fluent in Khmer (Cambodian) and English.
