Shilpa Sayana, MD, MPH
Born in Zambia, Shilpa grew up in Botswana and came to the United States for college, medical and public health school. She spent time working in Egypt, India and South Africa mainly in the field of HIV care. With her family living in Botswana, she hopes to continue working with HIV positive patients around the world.
Interest in HIV Medicine: "I am interested in HIV medicine because my passion has always been to work with those who are most vulnerable in our communities and HIV/AIDS mainly affects this population. My eventual goal is to take my knowledge of HIV care internationally to places where access to HIV medications and good quality of care are minimal. I believe a Physician's responsibility is to be an advocate for those voices that are not heard and that access to excellent quality of HIV care is a human right and should not be a privilege."
Dina L. Rosen, MD, LCSW, MPA
Born in Japan, Dina was raised in Southern California in a family who believed in education, helping others and travel. She received her License in Clinical Social Work and Masters in Public Administration in Health. Dina worked in non-profit AIDS Service Organizations for many years before returning to medical school. She has had the opportunity to focus on HIV/AIDS and health care delivery systems while training in the Czech Republic, England, South Africa, the Carribean, and Cuba. Dina hopes to combine all her degrees and experiences toward improving healthcare delivery and access to those who are underserved throughout the globe.
Interest in HIV Medicine: "Why HIV Medicine? It is my calling. I worked in HIV/AIDS as a social worker and administrator for 12 years before going to medical school. I loved the clients and feel a great sense of purpose in helping those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS throughout the world."
