The Epidemic
1.6% of the people in Sierra Leone are HIV positive. In 2009, less than 20% of those in need of ART were receiving it – the lowest treatment proportion of any of the African countries with which AHF has a relationship.
AHF in Sierra Leone
AHF does not currently have a presence on the ground in Sierra Leone. Our activities in the country are limited to a collaborative relationship with the Sierra Leone National HIV/AIDS Secretariat. In 2008, the Secretariat participated in AHF’s global One Million Tests campaign. As part of our mission to promote condom usage and easy, rapid HIV testing, AHF donated condoms and test kits to Sierra Leone in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
