Chinkholal Thangsing, MD

Bureau Chief, Asia Pacific

Chinkholal Thangsing, MD is the Asia Pacific Bureau Chief for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). Dr. Thangsing has more than 25 years experience as a medical professional and has dedicated 20 years to the management of HIV/AIDS related healthcare services.  As an HIV specialist and clinician, he has provided training for physicians, clinical care, and psychosocial management and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.  As an activist he has advocated for universal access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment in the Asia Pacific region.

 

Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing was instrumental in founding AHF India Cares in 2006, which operates antiretroviral (ART) treatment programs and advocacy efforts in India, and provides comprehensive HIV treatment and care, testing, and psychosocial support for people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing spearheaded AHF’s efforts to establish life saving AIDS care services in the Asia Pacific region and set up various AIDS care centers in India, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Thailand and Nepal. He is also Founder and President of AIDS Care Physicians Alliance, The Touch of Hope Foundation, The Agency of Community Care and Development and a founding member of Asia Pacific Neuro AIDS Consortium. In addition, he is on the Editorial Board of the American Society for HIV/AIDS Medicine, a member of the International AIDS Society, a member of the Asia Pacific Pediatric HIV/AIDS consortium, a member of the Christian HIV/AIDS National Alliance and board member of various organizations and committees in the region.

 

In January 2009, Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing received the prestigious Royal Order of Sahametrei, a medal of honor bestowed on those who have rendered distinguished services to the King and to the Nation by Royal Decree of his Majesty the King of Cambodia. The award recognized Dr. Lal’s exemplary contribution and dedication towards humanitarian services rendered by him and AHF for the people living with HIV/AIDS and general public in Cambodia.

 

Dr. Chinkholal Thangsing received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from North Eastern Regional Medical College, Manipur University, India in 1985. His postgraduate work included training in Applied Psychology, HIV/AIDS and he received his postgraduate Fellowship from Christian Academy of Medical Sciences in Vellore, Tamilnadu.
